Organizing family help after surgery
A few weeks of help still need a shared plan.
Someone is coming home after surgery. The ride, meals, household jobs and follow-up appointments need people beside them. Bring that temporary circle of support together.
Use the discharge instructions and follow-up schedule supplied by the clinical team as your starting point. Ask the person recovering what help they want, then list the everyday jobs that need coverage. How much help is needed, and for how long, depends on their individual instructions and circumstances.
Example family tasks after a hospital stay
These are fictional organizing examples. Adapt them to the person’s wishes and the instructions you have received.
| Task | Who | When | Done when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Confirm the trip home | Agreed driver | Before discharge | The collection arrangements are confirmed |
| Handle the household’s requested groceries | Friend or relative | The agreed day | The order is delivered and the household knows |
| Arrange transport for follow-up | Chosen helper | Before the appointment | The appointment and ride details are together |
In Allayra, add the task, assign a circle member, choose a due date and put the handoff details in the notes. Start with one real responsibility.
Make the next handoff clear
Choose a backup for time-sensitive errands and agree on how to reach them directly. Keep wound care, medication changes and recovery questions with the clinical team. When temporary help winds down, review circle access and decide what records the authorized owner wants to retain or delete.
